The bark of Commiphora gileadensis, a tree long valued in traditional medicine, is packed with phenolic compounds—natural molecules known for their antioxidant prowess. But extracting them has often been a slow, solvent-hungry process. Enter microwave-assisted extraction (MAE): a technique that uses microwave energy to heat solvents quickly, breaking down plant cell walls and releasing bioactive compounds in minutes rather than hours. This method not only speeds things up but also reduces solvent use, making it a greener choice for industry and research alike. In this study, researchers optimized MAE conditions to maximize the yield of phenolic compounds from the bark, demonstrating that this approach is both efficient and sustainable. The findings suggest that MAE could become a standard tool for tapping into the antioxidant potential of medicinal plants, offering a fast track from bark to bioactive extract.
