Chamomile flowers are packed with fascinating biologically active compounds, from flavonoids and vitamins to phenolic acids and sesquiterpenes. But unlocking these valuable specialized metabolites depends heavily on how you extract them. Researchers compared conventional methods against cutting-edge ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) to see what happens when sound waves go to work on herbal material.

The results speak volumes. Ultrasound-assisted extraction dramatically slashed extraction times while delivering significantly higher levels of polyphenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity compared to traditional approaches.

However, the solvent matters just as much as the machine. Different solvents significantly altered the profile of specialized metabolites, with a 50% ethanol solution emerging as the champion for securing the highest concentrations of vitamin C and polyphenols.
