Green Tea Polyphenols Extracted Using Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents (NaDES): Extraction Efficiency and Anti-Inflammatory Mechanisms-A Narrative Review

Inflammation is a complex battlefield of immune signaling, where cytokines, oxidative stress, and pathways like NF-κB and MAPK orchestrate the body's response. Green tea, Camellia sinensis, offers a natural arsenal—polyphenols, especially catechins—that can modulate these pathways. But their effectiveness hinges on how well they are extracted and how stable they remain, which depends heavily on the solvent system used. Enter Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents (NaDES): eco-friendly alternatives to conventional solvents that boast improved solubility for polar phytochemicals. This narrative review, based on targeted searches of PubMed and Google Scholar, synthesizes current evidence on NaDES-based extraction of green tea polyphenols and their anti-inflammatory activities. The findings suggest that NaDES not only enhance extraction efficiency but also preserve the bioactive compounds' ability to fight inflammation at the molecular level.
