What if your sunscreen came from mango and mulberry leaves, extracted with nature's own green solvents? A new study turns these leaves into a spray gel that actually blocks UV rays.

Forget chemical sunscreens for a moment. Scientists are exploring plant-based alternatives, and this time, they're using a clever extraction method called NADES-MAE. This technique uses natural deep eutectic solvents, which are eco-friendly and efficient at pulling out active compounds from plants.

In this study, researchers combined extracts from gedong mango leaves and mulberry leaves in different ratios to create three spray gel formulations. They tested the gels' physical properties—appearance, spreadability, pH, and viscosity—and all passed with flying colors. But the real star was their sun protection factor (SPF).

The SPF values increased with the amount of mulberry leaf extract: the formulation with the highest mulberry content (GM-CarSG 3) boasted an SPF of 3.53, while the others scored 2.08 and 2.78. This shows that the leaf combo has genuine sunscreen potential.

So, the next time you see a mango tree, remember: its leaves might just be the future of sun protection. The study concludes that GM-CarSG 3 is the best formulation, offering the highest SPF among the tested variants.
