Natural deep eutectic solvent formulations for spirulina: Preparation, intensification, and skin impact

Wils L. · Algal Research · 2021 · 80 citations

How do you filter through hundreds of scientific papers to find the exact key to unlocking nature's biomass? By mapping out a precise path through the world of natural solvents.

Scientific discovery often starts with a mountain of literature. Researchers recently set out to tame a massive collection of publications, filtering the data to focus specifically on research articles and patents tied to French affiliations. After meticulously removing reviews and off-topic studies regarding natural deep eutectic solvents and biomass recovery, the pool narrowed down significantly. Out of nearly 250 initial references found using specific keywords, exactly 29 targeted studies remained that directly addressed the recovery of biomass.

Visualizing this specialized data required a concept map. By analyzing this curated set of publications, the mapping process successfully highlighted three distinct main groups of research focus. This structured approach helps chart the territory for how natural solvents interact with valuable materials like spirulina, setting the stage for future preparation, process intensification, and skin impact studies.
