A sweeping review of 132 studies reveals how traditional and advanced methods are being compared to boost efficiency, reproducibility, and stability of bioactive compounds—crucial for plants like Andrographis paniculata and Curcuma longa used in Thai medicine.

Phytochemicals such as flavonoids and alkaloids are powerful, yet their levels fluctuate with genetics, climate, and harvest timing. For instance, more UV light triggers extra flavonoids, while dormant roots pack more alkaloids. Post-harvest handling matters too: shade drying preserves delicate oils, while high heat can destroy them.

Enter green extraction. Hybrid solar drying slashes energy use by 20–40%, sometimes up to 70%, compared to conventional dryers.
