The medicinal plant Commiphora gileadensis, known for its historical uses, is now under the scientific spotlight. A systematic review of extraction techniques shows promise for sustainable pharmaceutical development. The abstract highlights the plant's pharmacological potential, primarily linked to phenolic acids and flavonoids, which are known for strong antioxidant properties. The study evaluated ten Lamiaceae herbs, including oregano, lavender, and rosemary, using traditional infusions and microwave-assisted extracts. Antioxidant capacity was measured via spectrophotometric assays, with total phenolics and flavonoids quantified by HPLC. Results showed excellent antioxidant activity across all samples, with IC50 values for DPPH radicals ranging from 3.73 to 8.03 µg/mL, and for ABTS from 2.89 to 8.55 µg/mL. Notably, microwave-assisted extraction generally yielded higher levels of bioactive compounds compared to infusion. The presence of gallic acid was detected in all samples, with lemon balm and lavender showing the highest concentrations. These findings highlight the potential of Lamiaceae herbal extracts as valuable dietary antioxidants for everyday use.
