Alchemilla subcrenata, a montane member of the rose family, has been used in folk remedies for centuries, yet its chemical secrets remained largely untapped. Now, scientists have applied a modern green technique—microwave-assisted extraction—to coax out its bioactive compounds efficiently. By fine-tuning three variables (ethanol concentration, solid-to-liquid ratio, and extraction time) with a smart statistical design, they found the sweet spot: 60% ethanol, a 1:12.5 ratio, and just 10 minutes of extraction. The result? Exceptional antioxidant and enzyme-inhibiting activities, measured across twelve different assays.

Delving deeper, the team identified 28 phenolic compounds, including quercetin hexosides and hydroxycinnamic acids, which explain the plant's broad bioactivity. Notably, two compounds—naringenin and aesculetin—were recorded for the first time in this species. This comprehensive profiling marks a breakthrough, positioning A. subcrenata as a promising candidate for nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.
